The Highland Farm

We share a large part of our farm with a herd of Highland cattle. Animals of this breed are known for their exceptionally gentle temperament while remaining very lively and curious animals. Our herd includes adult bulls, cows and calves alike.

Highlanders are truly regal animals. Their roots reach back to the western and northern parts of Scotland, and in her lifetime Queen Elizabeth II established a Highland Cattle fold near Balmoral Castle, dedicated to keeping this very breed.

What sets Highlanders apart from other cattle breeds is their practically maintenance-free rearing. The animals have over 60 hectares of meadows, groves and picturesque wetlands at their disposal. They feed on the grass, flowers and herbs growing in the pastures, as well as the feed we provide.

Thanks to their remarkable ability to adapt, they cope equally well in the scorching summer and the harsh winter. Their body is covered with two layers of thick hair, and their head is crowned with sweeping horns.

A close encounter with the regal cattle

If the Highlanders have stolen your heart as they have ours, we will gladly show them to you in their natural environment. The Highland farm we built for our guests is a great place to get to know our charges up close. You can offer the animals dry bread, which you will receive from us. From the viewpoint set in the middle of the enclosure you can admire not only the herd, but also the view of the wetland and the surrounding fields.
